Artist Statement

I am a contemporary artist residing in the US. My journey into art began in childhood, deeply influenced by my grandmother who was also an artist, as well as my love for cartoons. What began as simple notebook doodles soon developed into something more. This included my bedroom wall which was a short-lived but remembered masterpiece. My foundation as an artist is self-taught, but I have enhanced my skills over the years by participating in various workshops and classes. I started as a painter but eventually merged into ceramics. It felt like a natural progression and is my main focus now.

I’m really drawn to vibrant colors and exaggerated features yet I still appreciate the simplicity of a basic sketch. My work is often influenced by the playful energy of pop culture and the raw beauty of the natural world. It’s a unique blend where one brings an immediate boldness while the other rests in the details, like the texture of leaves or hair. Life is complex so the merging of these 2 themes can illustrate the duality of our existence. In a dark moment, laughter is thought to be the best medicine, so adding humor to my artwork feels therapeutic in a way. We all seek balance and things are never what we anticipate. Dodging life’s punches isn't always an easy task. Sometimes head on is the only option, forcing an internal review, and release of emotional creativity. - Amy
